The campaign for Ricardo De Melo Gomes for Mayor, Town of Cutler Bay is committed to making ricardo4mayor.com accessible to the widest possible audience, including residents with disabilities. We believe every voter deserves equal access to information about this race.

Our Standard

We are committed to conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.

Measures We've Taken

This Site was built with accessibility as a core requirement, not an afterthought. Specific measures include:

• A mobile-first, responsive layout that works at any screen size from 375px up, without horizontal scrolling or unexpected layout shift.
• A "Skip to content" link on every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
• Full keyboard navigation, with a visible focus ring on every interactive element.
• A mobile menu with proper aria-expanded state, a focus trap while open, and Escape-to-close support.
• Minimum 44×44px tap targets on buttons and links.
• Real, associated <label> elements on every form field, with form errors announced through aria-live regions.
• Color choices — dark teal, warm yellow, off-white, and charcoal — selected and checked to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text), including yellow buttons using charcoal (not white) text.
• Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and a logical, single <h1> heading structure on every page.
• Support for prefers-reduced-motion, which disables non-essential animation and smooth scrolling for visitors who request it.
• Descriptive alt text and ARIA labeling on images, icons, and social media links.

Ongoing Work

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time checklist. While we've built this Site with WCAG 2.1 AA as our target from the start, we do not claim full, certified conformance — we are continuing to test, review, and improve the Site as it evolves, and we welcome feedback that helps us do better.
